A letter entitled The need for an EU strategy for geothermal energy was created in an effort to demonstrate the wealth of support for geothermal from the community and stakeholders. The letter states: “Europe rests on an unlimited treasure-trove of geothermal energy providing permanent supplies of renewable heating, cooling, power as well as sustainably sourced lithium and other raw materials, everywhere.”
Despite the promising opportunities for geothermal in Europe, it remains underdeveloped and out of sight for EU policymakers. The letter calls for Europe’s strategy on geothermal energy and sustainable raw materials extraction to be issued. The strategy serves to unlock the potential of geothermal energy as a major renewable energy source across the internal market and neighboring countries.
