Eavor begins collaboration with Bavarian district Neu-Ulm to implement local energy autonomy

Eavor GmbH recently announced a partnership with SWU Stadtwerke Ulm/Neu-Ulm GmbH, a municipal utility company that supplies the region with electricity, gas, water, heat, to explore implementing Eavor-Loop™ technology in the region and pave the way for Neu-Ulm and Senden to achieve local energy autonomy.

This collaboration aligns with Neu-Ulm’s ambitious goal to decarbonize by 2040, a commitment emphasized by Mayor Katrin Albsteiger, who urges immediate action to achieve it.

“With the plan to transform heat distribution, we shall demonstrate our commitment to incorporate innovative and safe energy technologies. This project strengthens our position as a pioneer in the regional energy transition and contributes to our efforts in establishing a sustainable energy supply for our city,” Albsteiger stated.

Daniel Mölk, the managing director of Eavor GmbH, expressed excitement for the collaborative opportunity.

“It is thanks to the foresight and pioneering spirit of SWU that the implementation of a deep geothermal energy project in the region’s bedrock, using Eavor’s technology, will be possible for the first time. Once all preliminary investigations are completed, we will deploy our sophisticated closed-loop technology,” Mölk explained.

The initial phase involves a comprehensive exploration into the geological and technical feasibility of integrating geothermal energy into the Neu-Ulm and Senden regions. Launched in January 2024, this investigative stage is slated to span three years, abstaining from drilling activities in favor of surface measurement methodologies. Environmental assessments and geological surveys will be conducted, utilizing a 2D seismic campaign slated for later in 2024. The overarching objective is to assess the viability of harnessing geothermal resources within the Neu-Ulm and Senden areas.

The partnership between Eavor and SWU holds promise for advancing sustainable energy solutions and supporting Neu-Ulm and Senden in achieving local energy autonomy through the utilization of a clean and renewable energy source. Moreover, this collaboration could contribute to a more resilient and sustainable energy future for the communities involved.
