Geothermal Rising unites with CanGEA, launching Geothermal Rising Canada

Geothermal Rising (GR)—a global organization that promotes the education, development, and implementation of geothermal energy—recently announced their acquisition of the Canadian Geothermal Energy Association (CanGEA). CanGEA will now be recognized as Geothermal Rising Canada, an affiliate of the GR worldwide network.

The decision was unanimously approved by the Boards of both organizations and fully ratified by CanGEA’s members. Their collective aim will be to advance the geothermal industry’s regulatory influence and technological development.

“Geothermal energy development is a North American opportunity. It makes a lot of sense to have one body, Geothermal Rising, as the voice to represent an industry looking to grow its footprint,” said Lisa Mueller, GR Board member-elect and CEO of FutEra Energy, in GR’s press release.

Geothermal Rising Canada stated that it will continue CanGEA’s two-decade legacy of advocating for policy improvements and fostering industry growth. Bryant Jones, Executive Director of GR, expressed gratitude for CanGEA’s impact and will leverage collective resources to amplify achievements in the geothermal sector.

According to Eavor Co-Founder Jeanine Vany, over $47 billion in global investments in geothermal energy in 2023, along with 140,000 jobs supported worldwide, reflect the growing interest in geothermal energy. It also reflects a crucial moment for Canada and the U.S. to continue collaborations and build momentum in this industry.

Moreover, Canada is set to host the World Geothermal Congress in 2026, and GR aims to leverage its expertise to expand knowledge-sharing opportunities, empower Indigenous voices, and enhance industry visibility.

With this acquisition, GR cements its position as a leading advocate for geothermal energy in North America, uniting efforts to maximize the potential of this sustainable resource.
