Matt Mailloux from ClearPath, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing clean energy innovation, is spotlighting Eavor’s closed-loop technology as a promising solution to enhance U.S. energy capacity by providing reliable, 24/7 power.
With the U.S. geothermal sector currently supplying less than one percent of the nation’s grid, Mailloux points to predictions by the NREL that estimate geothermal could contribute 60 gigawatts by 2050. However, he cited funding and permitting as significant roadblocks, noting geothermal has received only a fraction of federal support compared to other technologies.
Another obstacle is the permitting process, which can require up to six separate environmental reviews throughout a project’s lifecycle. Mailloux called for bipartisan efforts in the U.S. Senate to expedite permitting and expand funding for geothermal demonstration projects. He asserted that Eavor’s innovations, along with federal backing, could unlock the vast geothermal potential within the country’s subsurface.
